Change in reservation policy
It's been a busy season—thanks to all our guests! However, an increasing number of same-day cancellations has forced us to reconsider how we accept reservations. Please make your reservation through your hotel, not directly to the restaurant! We purchase our ingredients based both on the best materials available for the season, and the number of reservations we have received. We hope that this will help us ensure that we provide you with the very best meals! Thanks for your understanding.

Jin and Yasuko Sato, the "JY" of Second Step

econd Step JY is both one of the best known restaurants in Myoko (at least for the locals!), and still something of a hidden treasure.

For many years, Jin and Yasuko Sato operated Step One in the Akakura area of Myoko, right at the base of the mountain. Especially during the years of Japan’s ski boom, it was a bustling, friendly little bistro with a menu that drew on Jin’s experience in French cuisine, enhanced by jazz music. As the boom began to dissipate, and because of the heavy snows of Myoko, they decided to take their second step and relocate full time to the restaurant entirely within their own house in the Myoko Onsen area.

It's in an unlikely spot in many ways, down some narrow side streets that can seem like a maze if you’re driving. But it will be worth it! And with GPS navigation assist, who gets lost these days....
